What People's Say About Place

I visited this place a few months back, and as I write this review, I’m reminded of just how delicious it was. The brisket was outstanding, and the sides that came with the meal were flavorful, appetizing, and downright tasty.

This no frills down home spot has good soul food with a mix of Southern, Cajun, Texan and Northern comfort food. The ribs were a northern grill with light smoke which seemed to be more of a direct heat cook while the brisket was Texas smoked with an indirect heat cook. Both were seasoned well with the right pull and bite. Neither were sauced. The thin flavorful sauce served on the side adds a level of deliciousness. Two thumbs up. The greens were a southern sweet style which transforms to sweet heat when you add the house made pepper sauce. The Mac and cheese tastes like the traditional southern comfort food made with cheddar from your grandma’s kitchen. Lloyd, the personable owner, gave us a sample of the gumbo which was Cajun style with the rice cooked in the rich dark roux. There’s meat in it but don’t expect big chunks. And, of course, the meal would not be complete without the sweet cornbread muffins that taste like my favorite Jiffy mix made with love. They could have been made from scratch but either way they were hot and yummy! We didn’t try any homemade desserts because we were too full. We enjoyed the food and the history lesson Lloyd shared with us. Looking forward to another visit with Lloyd and Loretta to try the chicken, pulled pork and other sides. It’s a must do if you are in the area

While in town for work I pulled my coworker in here on a whim being from the south its always fun to check out these northern "southern" places. Not going to lie. I was so overwhelmingly surprised. Owners chatted us up and we're a great older couple. Immediately hearing i was from the south she gave me a bowl of gumbo to try it out. I jave lived all along the gulf coast and this is within the top 3 best gumbo I have ever had. This isn't a joke and it's just that damn good. I cant tell you enough how surprised I was that thos place beat many places in the south with traditional gumbo. The spare ribs were awesome and nicely smoked with good flavor. The Mac, baked beans, cornbread were all equally as good complimented with a great sweet tea. I was so full and it was so good. But then I saw it, the buttermilk pie. I have not had a chance to have a good piece since my grandmother made it for us back in the 80s. It was heaven in your mouth. Do not skip this place and I know I already told my wife that if im within 2 hours of here again I will be making the detour. I dont care.

Grandpa’s is a a charming and humble restaurant with some of the very best barbecue you can find west of the Mississippi. The service is excellent, and you will be made to feel right at home, as if you were in your own Nana’s kitchen. The portions are generous and the food is obviously made with love and care that comes from the heart. I have had the catfish (served only on Fridays and made to order) in the past and it is divine! This night, I had the pulled pork (tender, juicy, and smoky) while my friend had the brisket (smoky, tender, and so full of flavor). You will be hard pressed to decide which of the many sides to have! All of them are amazing! Sometimes we get extra sides because we just can’t choose. Particular favorites of mine are the macaroni and cheese, potato salad, green beans, and the rice and beans. Everything is homemade from scratch and with care. Eating the pecan pie nearly made me cry as it reminded me of my own grandma’s and I hadn’t had it since she passed away. Food is kind of magical and it can transport you to a different time and place. And eating at Grandpa’s can do that, you will feel the warmth and love that you did (or should have felt) as a child. So pull up a chair, relax, and enjoy!

Service was amazing. We just got into town from Nampa and wanted BBQ. Found this online and was the only place we saw with greens. So we came here oh my lord was it the right choice. Ribs were smoked perfect and the side were to die for. My littles craved the butter corn and the wife devoured the greens with out me getting a taste. Definitely coming back here if we are ever in town again.

This is such a great local place to get great food and absolute top tier service! Loretta and Lloyd make you feel like you are eating at home and just belong there. The brisket is so good and tender. Recommend thier mashed potatoes and mac and cheese for your sides. You cannot go wrong with Gumbo or Chicken Noodle soup for an appetizer. The cornbread muffins are also amazing. Then get a swamp water to wash it all down. Want to feel like a local and get great food, then you need to stop by Grandpa's BBQ!

Very amazing local family-owned restaurant. They have very friendly staff whom assist and recommend great options. Definitely felt warmly welcomed. Food is tasty too! First time here and everything we ordered was great! The gumbo, brisket, ribs and pies! Will definitely come back to try more the next time I'm in town. Being a local restaurant, their set up is simple and clean. A very homey space.

Great homemade soul food that reminds me of my childhood. Friendly staff that makes you feel like family. Food was delicious best red beans and rice I’ve ever had! And the collar greens were flavorful and cooked to perfection! Plenty of meat options for Bar-B-Q lovers will definitely be back this Friday for catfish night! Would highly recommend to anyone.
